Happy Valley vs. Northern Virginia

Happy Valley and NoVA are two different worlds.

My name is Chelsea West and I am currently a freshman at Penn State studying Telecommunications. I'm from the Northern Virginia area, specifically Centreville in Fairfax County.

Coming to UP was a very big change from Northern Virginia. Honestly, State College is in the middle of nowhere whereas the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) is very suburban. There are houses everywhere, malls are just around the corner, and DC is just a metro ride away. In State College, the football stadium is a 45 minute walk, Wall-mart is a lightyear away, and the only mall houses about 13 stores.

Despite all of their differences, both places feel like home. Although I've only been at PSU for a little over a week, I have already adjusted living here. I have a morning routine, I know my class schedule, and I have a wonderful group of friends.

Whether I am in Happy Valley or in NoVA, I will always be home.
